Fall Mission Trip Report 18

Photo: Project 143/UKR422, full of medical disposables and casting supplies valued at over $300,000, was loaded to take off to Poland on March 8th, 2022.

Several have asked about the food for the children who had to be moved from the camp. Thank you for your concern. Last night I was talking with the man responsible for these children. That was when I heard that 30 children were being sent from Zaporozhe thus making the total 280 children. The children had planted potatoes and other vegetables this summer and had a good crop. The Director knows some butchers who give him scrap bones that have lots of meat still on them (like the gleanings in the Bible). It was thought the with the garden and these scraps, there would be food, not a great quantity but enough to feed the children. The attack brought the evacuation of the children and thus lost was their summer’s harvest.

Nicholi told me that he will have to find funds to feed the children. I asked how much would it take and he said about $50.00 per child and that would be supplied with whatever supplements he could find. This is LESS than $2.00 per day for each child. At this time, we are expecting this food need to exist through January 2023—4 months.

Can I ask that some of our children’s Bible classes take this as a class project? This will help teach our children life’s lessons in a practical way. Can I get some of our middle school and high school classes and youth group to participate and sponsor a number of these children?

If you want to participate then funds can be sent to the Dalraida Church of Christ and please MARK FOR CHILDRENS FOOD.

Charita’s post on a completed action…

Project 143/UKR422, full of medical disposables and casting supplies valued at over $300,000, was loaded to take off to Poland on March 8th, 2022.

Great thanks to our donors, Charitable Medical Distributors, Henry Schein Cares Organization, and CURE (WestArk Church of Christ, Ft Smith, AR).

Also, infinite thanks to Dalraida COC Montgomery, Alabama, for sorting, loading, sponsoring this project, and taking their part in humanitarian aid in Ukraine!

Since this war started, we have met many trustworthy partners worldwide.  One group we met and instantly knew we met like-minded humanitarians is Be a Hero foundation.  Their founder, an incredible superwoman, Marta Małecka, tediously worked on getting humanitarian aid into Ukraine, while returning with full busses of Ukrainian refugees. This valuable cargo has been donated to Be a Hero Foundation in Poland for further delivery and distribution.  Volunteers from Be a Hero met to receive this donation and finally on August 8th, 2022, donated medical supplies got delivered to Kharkov, Ukraine. Thanks to our supporters, we can provide aid for those disadvantaged. From brother Michael Lawson…

This update is both good news and bad news. It is a message of what we can do when we work together and it is a message of sacrifice when we fight for the right to choose freedom over tyranny.

On 22 September, I posted a letter from a friend and sister in Christ…Svetlana. In that letter, she asked for prayers for her son-in-law Zhenya who was in the combat group that liberated Lyman in the Luhansk Region. If you have not read that message, let me encourage you to go back to read it. You can also find it in the “reports tab” at www.ukrainemissions.org.

On 4 October, I received word that Zhenya was killed in combat. His brother identified his body early this morning. Sveta has asked that Katya, Sveta and Pasha’s daughter and wife of Zhenya remain faithful to Christ.

Here is her message (with permission) from earlier today.

“Today Zhenya’s brother saw Zhenya’s body and proved that it is really his body. But we pray for his resurrection!

We are on our way to Krivoy Rog (Zhenya’s body is there) and we need to go more than 10 hours. We believe that God’s Word is alive today too. “Wives (women) received their loved ones back again from death” (Hebrew 11:35).

Please pray and proclaim life. Katya believes and ask all to support her in faith and prayer.”

Svetlana

On more positive news, a full trailer (about 15 tons) of medical supplies was delivered to Kharkov Ukraine 30 September to care for the war wounded throughout the embattled regions.

The following was posted on Facebook by Mariia in Kharkov. 5 October, 2022

“This was made possible thanks to joining in cooperation with KHLIB volunteers, organizations and individual people, namely:

  • The Hardin Valley Church of Christ and Ukraine Missions
  • World of Connections
  • @johnkachelman

About 15 tons of humanitarian aid were delivered in total! Just imagine the volumes and number of people this would improve, or even save, lives! Tomorrow our volunteers will start distribution of medical materials to urban and regional hospitals!

Thank you so much for your help!” Mariia

Mike’s Note: Deliveries such as this are only possible with your support. To date, approximately $1,000,000 in medical relief has been sent to Ukraine thanks to your generosity. There is more to do, so much more, please remember the war-torn Ukrainian people in your prayers and support. We are awaiting news on full containers of prepackaged food that will soon become available. On the left translates, “Medical Materials with America.” Mike Lawson www.ukrainemissions.org

John’s note: I think Mike is very conservative in his estimate. The wholesale value is many times more and the retails would be incredibly more! But, whatever value you attach, the true value is found in the gratitude of those receiving and using these supplies that have been generously supplied!

Again, I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 9:11-13…

“You will be enriched in everything for all liberality, which through us is producing thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God. Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all.”

Thank you for your prayers! Our trip is almost over. Perry & Gif were at the border crossing 4.5 hours and the last I heard was they still had 5.5 hours left driving. We will meet in Warsaw. I’m departing Wroclaw going to Warsaw this morning!
