Report #7 – October 2, 2021

Vova and Julia are an amazing couple working for the Lord in Lysets, Ukraine. They have four different villages in close proximity and work in all four. Jim Akridge and the Clarkson, KY congregation support Vova’s work and Jim has visited a number of times. The potential for this work is amazing.

I was invited to come and teach a Bible lesson to this group. They had requested a lesson on Psalm 46. I have to admit that within the past few years this text has had amplified meaning to me. How wonderful is the phrase: “God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble, therefore we will not fear.” The child of God is FREE from fear! How tragic that many Christians today are bowing to fear and allowing it to rule and ruin their lives. The Christian operates from facts and not fear! This is the essence of Psalm 46. A wonderful message that needs to be heralded throughout the world.

The table prepared!

Before the Bible study began we enjoyed a wonderful meal that had been prepared. We enjoyed a fish salad that was layered with mayonnaise, carrots, onions and eggs and had some kind of stringy green stuff on top; there were potatoes with meat and with mushroom gravy, cabbage slaw, homemade bread with cucumbers and juice, Julia’s homemade bread, and fresh homemade grape juice the kind I remember from the farm! It was finished by an apple cake that Sasha had made. Here is a photo of it.

The study went well and we had a good discussion on how the psalm applies so well to the current situation in our crazy world.

As class concluded and we climbed back into the church van that Vova drives, the night had turned much colder and a slight shower was falling. I could certainly feel “fall in the air”! I was given to take back and eat later the leftover fish salad and Julia’s bread! It was a delightful time.

As I close this report I just have to share some wonderful news! The plea for help loading the 60 hospital beds and mattresses in Pearl, MS has been answered! I received this email from the Skyway Hills congregation in Pearl, MS: “Sounds like a great cause to us. We are a small but ‘willing to serve’ church. I expect we could probably put together 5-10 helpers.”

Thank you for your prayers and financial support that makes this mission trip possible!
