They decided they would work washing cars and then give all of their earnings to the children.

One of my last trip’s reports noted the tragic situation that had caused the removal of 250 children from a safe camp. Russian cluster bombs had targeted the children’s location and the children needed to be moved. This was devastating. The children and adults in that compound had worked hard all summer planting and harvest cabbage, carrots, potatoes and other staples that would be kept in the winter cellar for meals. When the Russian missiles hit we had to move the children and all provisions were left.

There was not a safe compound the size needed to house these children, so moving them in mass was not possible.

At this point we have, from that one location, 280 children who have been accepted into the homes of families in western Ukraine.

In discussions I found out that the children needed food and when asked how much was needed, I was told that with frugal management and “gleanings” offered by local butchers, we could feed each child at least three meals a day for less that $2.00 ($50.00 per month).

In Matthew 20:34 the Scriptures speak of Jesus being “moved” by compassion. I like that word. It speaks of one’s inner-most yearning and motivation to action. Jesus Christ was motivated by His compassion, sympathy or pity. He saw the desperation and instantly responded.

This unprovoked war, beginning in 2014, has highlighted a callous sensitivity to human life, utter destruction of property and ruin of tens of thousands of lives. This is pure evil presented. BUT in the midst of this grievous evil there is an amazing contrast. Out of the ruin and devastation, God is highlighting compassion. And this compassion is portrayed by His People imitating their Lord as they are “moved” by compassion.

When the report was first posted some responded and helped furnish funds that were immediately needed. As the report circulated more have sent. The Dalraida children’s Bible classes were asked to have the children participate and collect coins. The Alabama Christian Academy upper-level school has joined and ACA students are filling buckets! We are beginning to receive donations from others who have learned of this need.

And the good news doesn’t stop! Just think on this timing…we have been offered (FREE!) 40 containers of food that can supplement what is available to these children in Ukraine!

This has allowed us to broaden the scope of assistance to the displaced children of war. In addition to helping the 280 children on this camp we are positioned to assist many more have basic food during this coming winter.

And it is all because God’s People are “moved by compassion”!

The messaging of Romans 8 is unmistakable…“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose…What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us…But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.”

Our efforts continue to bring amazing results.

Thank you to parents, schools and congregations that are utilizing the tragedies of evil to teach the compassion of Christ!

Thank you for your partnership in the gospel that makes these reports possible!

John L.
