Among the medical staff who entered was a young nurse with a small satchel. Inside were scalpels, bandages…and a simple comb. She approached a woman sitting quietly on a bench and began to pass the comb gently through her hair. Slowly, patiently, she untangled it—strand by strand, knot by knot. It was a gesture of tenderness in a place where only cruelty had existed. The woman trembled and then broke down in tears. Through sobs, she whispered: “No one has touched me with kindness since before the war.”

That moment was more than hygiene—it was the return of dignity, humanity, and the reminder that someone still cared. Years later, the nurse would say that though she had carried medical tools into Ravensbrück, it was the comb that brought the greatest healing. Even in the darkest places, mercy has the power to reach the human soul.

This historical antidote frames our obligation with the gospel’s power—it is in our hands to be used to touch, with kindness, those living in cruelty! It reveals the hope of dignity that only the absolute Truth of God is able to bring into a person’s life. And…Christians are the instruments for dispensing that hope for humanity’s dignity!

Our Mission is to Invite All to “Hope in the Lord!”

Jeremiah 17:7 says, “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord.” Biblical hope looks to God’s promises in His Word, trusting Him to supply what we need (Philippians 4:19). Our hope is not some nebulous wish for better things/situations. Our hope is authentic, trustworthy, and powerful. The Church is to “rejoice in hope” (Romans 12:12). Habakkuk survived struggles because he was filled with great hope “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be joyful in God my Savior” (Habakkuk 3:18). “Yet I will” was Habakkuk’s choice telling us that no matter what happens in life, when our hope is in God, we can praise Him regardless. Our efforts invite, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13).

When I think of “hope,” I recall this text, “(R)emember that you were at that time…having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you…have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
