Instrumental Music in worship IS a BIG DEAL!

Recently I received a link to a sermon preached at the Landmark church of Christ in Montgomery, AL. The preacher affirmed that mechanical instrumental music in worship is no “big deal.” The sermon was posted online and clearly advances the progressive agenda that there are no absolute truths governing our religious practices.

Dave Miller replied to this egregious act and a tract is available replying to the religious error espoused by this church and its leadership (This tract is available as a download from the link below or it can be ordered in hard copy from Apologetics Press.)

This tract needs to be distributed and studied by the Lord’s Church!

The recent development at Landmark is not surprising. Such has been developing for a long time. In recent months the push for progressive change became stronger as past tolerance allowed incremental movement toward the progressive goal.

Announced in its “21 Days of Prayer Guide” was this message: “As a key component of our month-long emphasis on serving, we are dedicating three weeks to praying as a family. From August 22 until September 11, we will meet in the Landmark Celebration Room from 6:00 AM until 6:30 AM to begin our days on our knees. Let’s all plan to be part of inviting God into our day, our church, and our lives in this special way.  September 10 – (no morning assembly at the building) – Read, meditate on, and worship with Psalm 146. Ask God to make it true in this place! All are invited to an evening of instrumental praise with your brothers and sisters in the Life Center lobby at tonight at 6:30PM.”

The small, almost unnoticeable actions that pushed the “old” out and embraced the “new” had become an unstoppable tsunami. Few, if ANY, voices of opposition were left—all objectors had been silenced first by their own cowardice and then by the “mob mentality” which excuses deviant actions by appealing to the crowd and thus excusing the individual accountability. The problem is that the principle of personal accountability does not excuse the “mob mentality.” The principle governing God’s Judgment Day is stated, “So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12).

It is sad that so many have sat silently and allowed the absolutes of God’s Word to be redefined so they approve the opposite of what God has commanded. Little-by-little the progressive change is injected. It is invited into the leadership levels. It promises growth and great feelings. But such will have a future reckoning as God will not be mocked.

The Epistle of Jude speaks soberly to this situation: Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties…But these men revile the things which they do not understand; and the things which they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals, by these things they are destroyed. Woe to them! For they have gone the way of Cain, and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam, and perished in the rebellion of Korah…These are grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage…“In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly minded, devoid of the Spirit (Jude 8-19).
